Portland, Oregon – Oregon State Police (OSP), with the assistance of the State Medical Examiner’s Office, will continue the investigation into the reported drowning death of a Forest Grove-area man Sunday evening at Collins Beach on Sauvie Island.
According to OSP Trooper Billy Bush, on September 4, 2011 at approximately 8:00 p.m. OSP and Columbia County deputies responded to the northern end of Collins Beach regarding a possible drowning. On arrival, several people were attempting CPR on an adult male. Bush and deputies took over and continued performing CPR until AMR medical personnel arrived about 20 minutes later. Medical personnel continued but were unable to revive the man identified as Michael L. Walker, age 45, from Forest Grove. Walker was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Walker reportedly was at Collins Beach when he tried to swim out to his boat and was later seen by a friend motionless in the water. Walker was brought back to the beach where revival attempts were unsuccessful.
The State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct toxicology tests but the results won’t be available for a few weeks.
