Shop Fire in Clackamas Caused by Spilled Gasoline

Employees of Roz Towing which leases space from NW Running Boards on Hwy 212 in Clackamas were transported and released late last night after suffering burns due to gasoline spilling onto a shop light. The employees were siphoning gas from the gas tank in order to make some repairs to the rear of the car when the gas spilled onto a shop light and flashed catching the car on fire inside the building. Gas also splashed onto the employees, catching their clothing on fire, causing 1st and 2nd degree burns on their legs and abdomen.

This fire also caused over $50,000 in damage to the structure by warping steel support beams.

The fire which was dispatched at 5:43pm Monday evening went to a 2nd alarm, but due to the first arriving companies being able to get the fire knocked down so quick, none of the 2nd alarm companies from Portland, Gladstone or Boring were used to fight this fire. They were released by Incident Command after the fire was out.

Always be very careful when working with or around gasoline. Be sure to have the appropriate fire extinguisher nearby and never use water to put out a gasoline fire. This will only cause it to spread.
