The despondent woman left her home a week ago Thursday, October 6, 2011. Her vehicle was located at High Rock lookout in the Mount Hood National Forest on Saturday October 8, 2011. The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office conducted a search for Mrs. Russu. The search spanned four days and involved over one hundred searchers including canines and aircraft.

The field operations were suspended on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 after several days of severe weather.  Mrs. Russu’s despondent intentions, the dangerous terrain, and severe weather were factors in suspension of the field operations.

Friends and family of Mrs. Russu reportedly returned to the area. This afternoon the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office received the report someone had found Mrs. Russu’s body below a cliff.

The Clackamas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team responded with volunteer search groups who were attending SARCon 2011 (Search and Rescue Conference) currently underway in Welches, Oregon.

A search team recovered Mrs. Russu’s body. The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office took custody of the remains for further investigation.

Detective Mike Weinstein, of the Portland Police Bureau, will continue his investigation regarding Mrs. Russu’s death.

Any investigative tips or clues should be forwarded to Portland Police Bureau Detective Mike Weinstein at (503) 823-0446.
