Rough Day for Ducks at Amer Ari Invitational
WAIKOLOA, HI — The No. 2 University of Oregon men’s golf team struggled to a 12-over par 300 in the second round of the Amer Ari Invitational, dropping from seventh into a tie for 15th in the 20-team field with a 36-hole total of 8-over 584.
The Ducks trail top-ranked Texas (-19, 557) by 27 strokes heading into Friday’s final round at the Waikoloa Resort Kings’ Course. No. 4 UCLA (-16, 560) is three spots behind the Longhorns, followed by No. 12 USC (-15, 561) and No. 5 Washington (-14, 562).
Eugene Wong is the only UO player under par among team scorers after shooting an even-par 72 Thursday on the 7,074-yard layout. The former Nicklaus Award winner is tied for 30th at 1-under 143.
Freshman Rak Cho, who opened with a 67 on Wednesday, shot 79 in Round 2, dropping from a tie for fourth to a tie for 54th at 2-over 146. Cho is tied with teammate Jack Paton, who had a 74.
Daniel Miernicki and Andrew Vijarro each shot 77. Miernicki is tied for 88th at 7-over 151, while Vijarro is tied for 98th at 8-over 152.
Robbie Ziegler, playing as an individual, is tied with Wong on the individual leaderboard at 1-under after a 72 on Thursday.
Friday’s final round is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. HT (9:30 a.m. PT). Live scoring will be available at Golfstat.com and updated after every three holes.
