Three Treated in Area Hospitals After Crash Near Gervais
Three people were seriously injured in a 2-car crash on Waconda Road NE about two miles south of Gervais on Sunday evening. The call to 911 came in at 6:20pm.
Marion County Deputies arrived at the scene to find two cars blocking the roadway and one driver still trapped inside. Fire personnel and medics extricated him from the vehicle.
Preliminary investigation indicates that Miguel A. Ramirez-Ensaldo, 18, of Gervais, was traveling eastbound on Waconda Road in a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu. Ramirez-Ensaldo lost control of his vehicle, slid sideways into the oncoming lane and was struck broadside by a 1999 Chevrolet Metro headed westbound.
Ismael Vera-Zuniga, 53, of Salem, was driving the Chevrolet Metro. His passenger was Bianca Islas-Santos, 45, also of Salem.
Ramirez-Ensaldo and Vera-Zuniga were transported by ambulance to the Salem Hospital for treatment. Islas-Santos was flown by Life-Flight helicopter to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland. We have no current information on their conditions.
The Sheriff’s Office CRASH team was called to the scene to conduct a forensic investigation to determine the cause of the crash. It appears excessive speed on the part of Ramirez-Ensaldo may be responsible for causing the crash. The final results of the investigation will be available in about 10 days.
Waconda Road NE remained closed to traffic until about 12:00am Sunday morning.
