Vehicle Attempting to Elude Officers Involved in Injury Crash in Salem
Salem, Oregon – Five people received minor injuries Sunday morning when a sport utility vehicle attempting to elude police officers collided with two other vehicles at a downtown Salem intersection. The intersection of Marion Street and Church Street is blocked during the crash investigation.
Preliminary information indicates on February 19, 2012 at approximately 8:49 a.m. an Oregon State Police (OSP) trooper attempted to stop a Chevrolet Tahoe sport utility vehicle northbound on Interstate 5 near milepost 242 for a traffic violation. The driver failed to yield and attempted to elude the trooper northbound at high speeds while OSP and officers from other agencies assisted.
The Chevrolet Tahoe exited the freeway onto Salem city streets. At approximately 9:05 a.m. the eluding Chevrolet Tahoe went through a stop sign at the Marion Street and Church Street intersection where it collided with two other vehicles.
The suspect driver, who is wanted on a felony warrant, and his passenger were injured. Three people in the other two vehicles were also injured.
