Juvenile Accidentaly Shot by Family Member

On March 26th 2012 at 1000 hours Deputies responded to a gun shot wound call at 21360 Gage Rd, Monmouth Oregon. The initial report was that an 8 year old boy had been shot by an unknown person while playing in the yard. The residence is situated on 25 acres in a very heavily wooded area of the county. Deputies also learned that the boy had been transported to the Salem Hospital by his mother to receive medical help.

Initially there was conflicting information as to how the 8 year old boy had been shot. Deputies continued to investigate the incident and later learned that his step father, Steven Hanna had accidentally shot his son while showing off his handgun. The gun shot wound was to the boy’s left shoulder area.

The 8 year old underwent surgery while at Salem Hospital for the gun shot wound. It was later determined that the boy was shot by a .38 caliber revolver. Several other firearms were also found during the search of the home.

Steven Hanna AKA Ricardo Ontiveros was arrested and lodged at the Polk County Jail on the following charges:

  • Felon in Possession of a firearm
  • Assault IV (Felony)
  • Tampering with a witness
  • Tampering with evidence
  • Reckless endangering.

BAIL:52,500

Also arrested in this investigation were the boys mother, Michal Hanna 34 yo W/F and Chesley Libby, who is Steven Hanna’s Friend.

Ms. Hanna was arrested for Tampering with a witness. Mr. Libby was arrested for Interfering with a Peace Officer.

    You should get your story correct before you publish it. I was not ever arrested and he only had surgery to clean out the wound. The only person that was arrested was my husband. Next time check your facts better!!!!!!!!!!!!
