Golfing for the Guard Tournament Benefits Oregon Service Members, Oregon Military Museum

Salem, Ore. – The Oregon National Guard participated in the 7th Annual Golfing for the Guard Tournament at Heron Lakes “Great Blue” Golf Course, May 25. The tournament began with the firing of an Oregon Army National Guard Howitzer from Alpha Battery, 2-218 Field Artillery Battalion and a flag-raising ceremony conducted by Soldiers of the 141 Brigade Support Battalion.

The tournament raised donations for the Oregon National Guard Emergency Relief Fund and the Oregon Military Museum Capital Campaign Fund. Alpha Broadcasting, FM News 101, KXL, and 750 The Game, sponsored the event.

The Emergency Relief Fund provides financial assistance to Oregon National Guard Soldiers, Airmen and their immediate families who are in need of emergency housing, food, medical or dental treatment, transportation, or temporary income assistance.

The Oregon Military Museum Capital Campaign will fund the renovation of the Oregon Military Museum at Camp Withycombe. The Oregon Military Museum’s mission is to tell the story of Oregon’s military heritage with a focus on the Oregon National Guard and the state’s militia, collect and ensure access to historical artifacts and archives, preserve items entrusted to its care and educate and inspire visitors through exhibits, living history and interpretive programs.
