NORTH BEND, Ore. — The Coast Guard rescued two people after their drift boat became swamped in the McKenzie River near Vida, Oregon, approximately 80 miles northeast of Coos Bay, Ore., Friday.
The Coast Guard received a report from the Lane County, Ore., Sheriff’s Department Friday afternoon, stating that two people were stranded in a swamped 16-foot drift boat in the McKenzie River, near Ben and Kay Dorris State Recreation Area.
Coast Guard Group / Air Station North Bend launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to assist.
The helicopter crew arrived on scene at approximately 3:45 p.m., spotted the swamped boaters and lowered a rescue swimmer.
The crew successfully hoisted both people to the helicopter and transported them to a nearby awaiting crew of McKenzie Volunteer Firefighters and other local EMS.
No injuries were reported.
