Portland, Ore. – Today, at 1:12 p.m., Portland Police officers assigned to Central Precinct responded to the report of an armed robbery in progress at Central Discount Drug, located at 538 Southwest 4th Avenue.
As officers were enroute, additional information was broadcast that the suspect ran out of the drug store and that employees had chased him down and were holding him at Southwest 4th Avenue and Yamhill Street.
Officers arrived and took the adult male suspect into custody. Officers talked with the employees and learned that the suspect entered the drug store and demanded drugs and money while threatening to kill everyone in the store. Employees told police that the suspect said he had a gun but no gun was actually seen. The drug store owner gave the suspect a few bottles of pills, then as the suspect left, the owner retrieved his gun and along with another employee, followed the suspect until they were able to detain him and get him on the ground.
The suspect has been transported to the Detective Division and will be booked into the Multnomah County Jail after further investigation.
The suspects name and charges will be released after he is booked into jail.
