Hazardous Materials Personnel Assisting OSP at State Capitol Building

Salem, Oregon – Salem Fire / Hazardous Materials personnel are on scene at the Oregon State Capitol Building following a report Wednesday afternoon that a envelope was opened containing a suspicious powder.
Update: Salem Fire / Hazardous Materials personnel have cleared the scene at the Oregon State Capitol Building following a report Wednesday afternoon that a envelope was opened containing a suspicious powder. Following a 45 minute assessment and analysis, the powder was determined to not be hazardous.

On August 8, 2012 at approximately 3:50 p.m. OSP Capitol Mall troopers were notified and responded to an office that is part of a suite of offices for members of the Governor’s staff. All employees in the area have been told to stay in their offices.

No further information will be released until the incident response is concluded.
