Good Nutrition, Economy and Fun are the Themes for March Cooking Classes

The four cooking classes set for March in the Marion-Polk Food Share Community Kitchen will emphasize the benefits of good nutrition, simple ways to stretch the food budget dollar, and having fun while cooking good food with others.

All classes take place in the Community Kitchen, 1660 Salem Industrial Drive NE, Salem. Class sizes are limited. Prepaid registration is required and may be arranged by calling program manager Kat Daniel at 503-581-3855, ext. 322.

The March schedule includes:

ONE CHICKEN, TWO MEALS — 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. March 5. Chef Marcia Hara will be sharing some very practical skills for using a whole chicken to create two tasty and economical dishes from scratch: Chicken Stir Fry and Chicken Curry with Coconut Milk. Participants will learn how to save some money by cutting up a chicken themselves. The class fee of $10 per person includes supper. Register by March 1.

PLANT BASED NUTRITION: Healthy and Affordably Vegan — 6 to 7:30 p.m. March 7. Strand will demonstrate two soups and a dessert, offering samples. Fee: $10. Register by March 1.

CHEF’S TABLE: TAMALADA 5 — 6 to 9 p.m. March 14. MPFS Chef Steve Morton offers this fifth in a series of popular make-and-take tamale making classes. The class fee of $30 per person covers all materials needed to bring home at least a dozen tamales. Vegetarian and meat fillings will be available along with two special salsas.  Register by March 8.
