A Two Alarm Combustible Metals Fire in Millersburg results in No Injuries

The Albany Fire Department responded to ATI Wah Chang, 1600 Old Salem RD NE, Building #123, in Millersburg at approximately 2:15 p.m. today to a report of an exterior combustible metals fire that was extending to a building. Firefighters arrived at the scene in about two minutes to find smoke coming from a one-story, 3,600 sq.ft., Zirconium sponge production building and observed several stainless steel containers of Zirconium sponge on fire inside. A second alarm was initiated about twelve minutes after the first arriving unit to have additional fire fighters respond to the scene due to the hazardous nature of the burning Zirconium; and, the potential for fire spread throughout the building.

Linn County Deputies Search For Missing Hunters

Linn County Undersheriff Bruce Riley reports that deputies and members of their search and rescue team were called to help locate two missing hunters. The Sheriff’s Office received a call today at approximately 3:00 a.m. reporting David Ulrich, 28 years old, and Robert Paige, 25 years old, both from Albany, missing after a planned day hunt in the Sweet Home area. The two had left their home early Friday morning with the intent of returning home that evening.

Off-Duty Marion County Deputy Killed in Traffic Crash – I5 north of Albany

Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into Sunday afternoon’s motorcycle-involved fatal traffic crash on the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 about ten miles north of Albany. The motorcycle operator, who was an off-duty Marion County deputy, was transported to Salem Hospital where he was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival from injuries received in the crash.

Unattended BBQ Leads to Fire at North Albany Home

Albany, Ore. – The Albany Fire Department responded to Crest Loop NW at approximately 2:35 p.m. to a reported house fire received from a 911 call.  Firefighters arrived in approximately 4 minutes to find a two-story single-family home with fire showing on the deck and eves of the home.  Firefighters cut a vent hole in the roof to remove any smoke and discovered the fire had spread into the attic.  The fire was brought under control in approximately 15 minutes.
