Corvallis Toddler Killed in Vehicle Related Accident

Corvallis, Ore. – At about 7:15pm, Corvallis Police Officers responded to the report of a critically injured child in the 400 block of NW Conifer Blvd. The Corvallis 911 center received a report from the parents of a 17 month old child, that the child had been struck by a vehicle parking in the driveway of the residence. The child was one of three children playing in the front of the residence prior to the accident. The vehicle was operated by the toddler’s father.

Corvallis Police Investigate Death of 20 Year Old at Sorority

Corvallis, Ore. – At 1:22 pm this afternoon, Corvallis Police officers responded to a 9-1-1 telephone call at Alpha Chi Omega sorority, 310 NW 26th St, Corvallis, for a possible death. Upon arrival, officers confirmed that a death had occurred at that location, and a death investigation was initiated. Investigators have indicated they found no signs of criminality or foul play involved in this death. It is likely the death occurred sometime over the weekend.

Albany,Oregon – The Albany Fire Department responded to the Highway 20 and Highway 226 east of Albany at 8:48 p.m. this evening to a reported motor vehicle accident. Firefighters arrived at scene within approximately eight minutes to find a car with two occupants had collided with a school bus carrying approximately twenty persons.

Benton County/Corvallis Emergency Managers Close Emergency Operations Center

Corvallis, Oregon – High winds predicted for the overnight hours of January 20, 2012, did not produce downed trees or power outages overnight in Corvallis or Benton County.  Gusts up to 28mph were measured in the overnight, short of the 40mph gusts originally predicted.  One report was received of high water surrounding a residence in the 1400 block of SE Brooklane Dr. but there is no estimation of damage to the residence at this time.

Weather Alert Preparation For Downed Trees

Corvallis, Oregon – Overnight weather predictions for the Mid Willamette Valley call for continuing rain and increasing winds with gusts of 40mph expected. Saturated soils, along with high winds, are likely to cause trees to fall. Falling trees cause power outages, sometimes for several days, based on the severity of the storm. Anticipating the heightened possibility of downed trees, Corvallis and Benton County emergency managers have established teams of public works staff to respond to downed trees. These crews will be available all night January 20, 2012.
