Sheriff’s deputies started to respond to the steep wooded area in the northwest corner of Washington County, near NW Bacona Road and NW Sherman Mill Rd. They did not have an exact location for the Mr. Herman because he had left his pickup at one of the closed forest gates and hiked in while bow hunting. He was following a deer trail when he slipped and slid down a very steep embankment. He was able to catch a stump before falling off a vertical cliff. He slid about 150 feet down the embankment before stopping and was not able to climb back up.
