Monday at 1:32 p.m. Jefferson Fire District was dispatched to a grass fire on Jefferson-Scio Dr. in Jefferson, Oregon. The fire burned a third of an acre of grass and brush. A tractor was tilling the field when the fire started. There was no dollar loss to the property. At 2:06 p.m. the fire was deemed under control.

SALEM, OR – The Marion County Children and Families Department will launch the third annual 2011 Holiday Book Drive on Thursday, December 1. This county-wide book drive will again seek 12,000 new or gently used children’s books from the community for its “Reading for All” project. The 2011 Holiday Book Drive will culminate in an all-day drive-through event based at the Salem Conference Center on Monday, December 12, 2011.
