Man Fatally Shoots Self During OSP Traffic Stop; Lane County Sheriff’s Office Investigating

At the request of Oregon State Police (OSP), the Lane County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) is starting an investigation into the death of an adult male who fatally shot himself Sunday afternoon after being stopped by OSP on Highway 126W about five miles west of Veneta. The names of the involved deceased male and the OSP officer are withheld and may be released Monday after next of kin notifications are confirmed and release is authorized by LCSO.

Single Vehicle Non-Injury Log Truck Crash – Highway 126E In Mapleton

A log truck driver was not injured Wednesday early afternoon when his truck and first trailer tipped onto their side negotiating a right turn on Highway 126E over the Siuslaw River in Mapleton. A portion of the trailer’s log load spilled onto the shoulder and the crash blocked the eastbound lane for several hours.

Serious Injury Truck Crash – Highway 58 West of Oakridge

A commercial truck driver was seriously injured Monday afternoon when his truck pulling two semi-trailers traveled off Highway 58 about two miles west of Oakridge and crashed into two trees. Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation but the driver’s name is not available for this release.

Free Fishing Weekend Family Event June 9 in Eugene

EUGENE, Ore. — The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will host a Family Fishing event at the Alton Baker Canoe Canal in Eugene on Saturday, June 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pre-registration is not required for this free event that will replace the popular Free Fishing Day event held at Leaburg Hatchery in previous years.

Commercial Tanker Truck Crash Keeps Highway 58 Closed West of Oakridge

Highway 58 remains closed Monday afternoon four miles west of Oakridge following this morning’s commercial trunk and tanker trailer rollover crash. According to ODOT, an estimated 4,000 gallons of diesel and gasoline spilled. Multiple emergency response agencies are coordinating the response and cleanup efforts throughout the day.
