Four Community Tree Awards for Volunteers and City of Salem

April is Arbor Month in Oregon and Salem is celebrating!

Recently, resident Linda Peterson, the Southeast Salem Neighborhood Association (SESNA), and the City of Salem each received awards for community forestry activities.  Salem’s own “tree lady,” Linda Peterson, received an award from Oregon Community Trees for her tree advocacy through the years, including serving on several tree committees.

Salem Coed Kickball League Team Registration Begins Monday

The City of Salem Public Works Department announces team registration for the 2013 Kickball League. Team representatives, coaches, or managers may pick up a Spring/Summer League Registration Packet at the City of Salem Public Works Department, 555 Liberty Street SE, Room 325, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (open during the lunch hour) or go to www.softballcityusa.com to print off the team registration packet.

Senators Lace up their Sneakers to Celebrate National Walking Day

Salem, Ore. -  Lead the Way to National Walking Day will be held on Tuesday, April 2 to commemorate the third anniversary of Marion County’s  Health and Wellness Initiative, “I Love ME.”  Kicked off in 2010 by Senators Peter Courtney and Jackie Winters,  “I Love ME” challenges all Oregonians to make healthy lifestyle choices and commit to the 5-2-1-0 in 30 challenge:  Eat five servings of fruits and vegetables each day; reduce leisure time in front of a TV or computer screen to two hours or less a day;  spend one hour a day moving actively; and have zero sweetened drinks in your diet.

Additional Witnesses Sought – Fatal Traffic Crash – Highway 22W West of Salem

Oregon State Police (OSP) is continuing the investigation into last Friday morning’s three vehicle fatal traffic crash that occurred on Highway 22W just west of the intersection with Highway 51 west of Salem. OSP is seeking any other witnesses to the crash who have not spoken to an investigator, including any witnesses to driving by any of the involved vehicles prior to the crash. Witnesses are asked to call Senior Trooper Bridget Taylor at (503) 472-0294 ext. 255.
